The Delhi High Court on Friday refused to direct Newslaundry to take down its videos which contain clips from India Today and Aaj Tak broadcasts and, according to a suit brought by TV Today , infringe copyright. In October 2021, TV Today, parent company of India Today and Aaj Tak , brought a defamation suit against Newslaundry, alleging infringement of their copyright and demanding damages of Rs 2 crore. Newslaundry had uploaded several videos on its website and YouTube channel that included clips from shows aired on India Today and Aaj Tak . The TV news channels had previously sent over 50 copyright strikes and claims to Newslaundry , causing our YouTube channel to be temporarily suspended. The defamation suit alleged that Newslaundry had reproduced the work of India Today and Aaj Tak and the “use of such material by the defendants is therefore an infringement of the copyright of the plaintiff in its news broadcasts” under the Copyright Act of 1957. India accounted for the highest number of legal demands to block content posted on Twitter by verified journalists and news organisations in the last six months of 2021, according to an Indian Express report citing the social media giant’s latest transparency report. The country also topped the list in the previous reporting period. A third of the total requests came from India, and the country, along with Russia, Turkey and Pakistan made up the top four in issuing such demands. This comes amid a legal tussle between the Indian government and Twitter. After slamming the media for running “kangaroo courts” , Chief Justice of India NV Ramana said on Tuesday that journalists lose faith in their profession when their stories are killed. Speaking at a book launch, the CJI said journalists sometimes report stories at great risk, only to see the stories killed by their editors. “It is thoroughly demoralising for a genuine journalist. You cannot blame him or her, if they encounter such situations repeatedly and lose faith in the profession,” he said. Ramana himself briefly worked as a journalist before entering the legal profession. In his speech, the CJI also emphasised the importance of independent media. “It’s the responsibility of media houses to present facts. Especially in the Indian social scenario people still believe that whatever is printed is true,” he said. “All I want to say is that the media must confine itself to honest journalism without using it as a tool to expand its influence and business interests.” He lamented tha

The central government’s crusade against “family fiefdoms” seems to have reached the doorsteps of the elite Delhi Gymkhana Club, with the union ministry of corporate affairs alleging a violation of norms to fast-track membership claims of relatives of a “select coterie”, and concerns among members about alleged attempts to trace their family tree. Spread over 27.03 acres of prime property in the heart of the national capital, the club, founded in 1913, is pilloried by its detractors as an “elite madhushala” and a “watering hole. It counts among its members the who’s who from the bureaucracy, judiciary, armed forces and corporate world. It all began with inspections in 2016 and 2019 by the ministry of corporate affairs, which subsequently moved the National Company Law Tribunal in March 2020 alleging financial irregularities under the Companies Act, 2013 and violation of membership rules of the club’s Articles of Association, among other charges. देश में आम तौर पर ट्रांसजेंडरों को घृणा से देखा जाता है. ऐसा इसलिए भी क्योंकि हमारे समाज में उनके बारे में बात नहीं होती. अधिकतर फिल्मों में ट्रांसजेंडरों को भीख मांगते या सेक्स वर्क के पेशे के रूप में दिखाया जाता है. शायद यही वजह है कि हम ये नहीं सोच पाते कि वह देश की तरक्की में भी कभी योगदान दे सकेंगे. इसी भ्रम को तोड़ने के लिए 51 वर्षीय प्रिया बाबू देश की पहली ट्रांसजेंडर फिल्म और पब्लिकेशन कंपनी की शुरुआत कर रही हैं. प्रिया बाबू ने जुलाई के महीने में तमिलनाडु में भारत की पहली ट्रांसजेंडर पब्लिकेशन और फिल्म कंपनी खोली है. यह फिल्म सितंबर में रिलीज होगी. वहीं इस पब्लिकेशन के बैनर तले पहली किताब, 'कोतरावाई' जुलाई के अंत तक प्रकाशित हो होगी. प्रिया बाबू पिछले कई सालों से ट्रांसजेंडर समुदाय के उत्थान के लिए निरंतर काम कर रही हैं. वह कई किताबें लिख चुकी हैं. 2014 में उन्होंने मदुरई में ट्रांसजेंडर रिसोर्स सेंटर की नींव रखी और 2019 में प्रिया ने देश की पहली ट्रांसजेंडर लाइब्रेरी की शुरुआत की. अब प्रिया बतौर डायरेक्टर और प्रकाशक अपने नए सफर की शुरुआत कर रही हैं. ऐसा इसलिए क्योंकि

Chief Justice of India NV Ramana on Saturday criticised the media for running Kangaroo courts “on issues even experienced judges find difficult to decide on”. Speaking at the National University of Study and Research in Law, Ranchi, the CJI said, “Ill-informed and agenda-driven debates on issues involving justice delivery are proving to be detrimental to the health of the democracy.” He said media trials cannot be the “guiding factor” in deciding cases. He was especially critical of the electronic media, saying, “Print media has some accountability, electronic media has none, and social media worse.” Pointing out the role of social media in how discourse is shaped, the chief justice said, “There are concerted campaigns on social media against judges. Judges may not react immediately. At 12.38 am on Friday, two policemen pulled up on a motorbike in front of Mitr Trust, an NGO in Delhi’s Sitapuri and, 19 minutes later, two men in khaki exited the gate, CCTV footage shows. A person in a black T-shirt and black shorts followed them along with a policewoman, and another policeman left on a motorbike a minute later. Mitr is a shelter home, or Garima Greh , for transgender people currently housing 13 men and 10 women, providing them food, shelter and skill training. Rudrani Chettri, the founder of Mitr and programme coordinator of Garima Greh, said Aditya, a trans man, had come to the shelter home on Wednesday. “He was found roaming around at a railway station in Delhi and had nowhere to go,” she said. Rudrani had Aditya brought to the shelter, where he reportedly told the other residents that he had been under house arrest for two and a half years because his parents were ashamed of him.
