जोशीमठ से 30 किलोमीटर दूर बद्रीनाथ के रास्ते पर पड़ने वाले लामबगड़ में 10 साल बाद भी वैसी चहलपहल नहीं लौटी है जिससे वह कभी गुलज़ार रहा करता था. 2013 में आई बाढ़ में यह पूरा गांव बह गया था. आज लामबगड़ में अलकनंदा की गर्जना के अलावा सब कुछ खामोश है.  यहां एक छोटी सी दुकान चलाने वाले भगवत चौहान कहते हैं, “पहले यहां एक अच्छी सड़क थी. करीब 40 दुकानें भी हुआ करती थीं और चहलपहल रहती थी. हमारा कारोबार अच्छा चलता था लेकिन 2013 की बाढ़ में सड़क, दुकानें और गाड़ियां सब बह गईं. तब मेरा करीब 4-5 लाख रुपए का नुकसान हुआ.” दरकते गांवों की अंतहीन सूची भगवत चौहान के भतीजे कमलेश जोशीमठ में एक होटल चलाते हैं लेकिन वह भी सूना पड़ा है. कमलेश कहते हैं, “लामबगड़ में करने को कुछ खास नहीं है. हम बद्रीनाथ में छोटा-मोटा कारोबार करते थे. कोरोना महामारी के बाद जब टूरिज़्म ठप्प हुआ तो जोशीमठ में किराए पर होटल शुरू किया लेकिन अब यहां भी बर्बादी के कारण कमाई जीरो हो गई है.” जोशीमठ जैसी ही तस्वीर लामबगड़ में दिखती है. कमलेश हमें यहां अलग-अलग मकानों में दरारें दिखाते हैं. इसमें उनका घर भी शामिल है. वह कहते हैं, “यह

Rejected at least 10 times by statutory bodies, the mega Hubballi-Ankola rail project has now ostensibly met the same fate at the hands of a seven-member inspection committee of the National Board for Wildlife. The committee’s report suggested revisions to the project proposal, and it was discussed at the 71st meeting of the NBWL held on December 29 and chaired by Bhupender Yadav, union minister of environment, forest and climate change. At this meeting, several significant changes were suggested, including doubling of the railway line, hinting at the possibility of acquisition of more forest land. As the controversy over a ban on a controversial BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi grows, the Supreme Court is set to hear petitions challenging the government move on February 6. Responding to the petitions, filed by litigant ML Sharma and journalist N Ram, advocate Prashant Bhushan, and TMC MP Mahua Moitra, Union law minister Kiren Rijiju Monday said, “This is how they waste the precious time of Hon’ble Supreme Court where thousands of common citizens are waiting and seeking dates for justice.” The BBC , meanwhile, has said that its documentary “was rigorously researched according to highest editorial standards” and that it “offered the Indian government a right to reply to the matters raised in the series” but “it declined to respond”. A day after an attempted screening of the BBC documentary on the JNU campus was followed by a power cut, stone-pelting, and a war of words between Left-affiliated student outfits and the ABVP, certain media channels amplified a poster released by a member of the latter, blaming 16 people for the violence, including a Newslaundry reporter. The poster containing photographs of 16 people was shared by ABVP’s JNU president Rohit Kumar on January 25, and was aired on Times Now , India Today and India TV without verification.  Newslaundry reporter Ashwine Kumar Singh, whose picture was in the poster, had incidentally visited JNU to report on the controversy on the evening of January 24. During a telecast on India Today , Kumar showed the poster and said, “What are these Jamia and DU (Delhi University) people doing inside JNU?
