भारतीय कुश्ती महासंघ के अध्यक्ष और भाजपा सांसद बृजभूषण शरण सिंह के खिलाफ पहलवानों का प्रदर्शन छठे दिन भी जारी रहा. पहलवान पिछले 5 दिनों से लगातार देश के लोगों से उनके प्रदर्शन में शामिल होने की अपील कर रहे थे. जिसके बाद देशभर से लोग लगातार पहलवानों के समर्थन में जंतर-मंतर पर इकट्ठा होने लगे हैं. न्यूज़लॉन्ड्री ने पहलवानों के समर्थन में आए छात्रों, महिलाओं और आम लोगों से बात की. प्रदर्शन में शामिल होने वाले लोग जहां एक तरफ केंद्र सरकार पर नाराजगी जाहिर कर रहे थे तो वहीं मीडिया से भी उनकी नाराजगी कुछ कम नहीं थी. 28 अप्रैल को जब आज तक की पत्रकार श्वेता सिंह जंतर-मंतर से चैनल को अपडेट दे रही थीं तभी कुछ प्रदर्शनकारी उनके पीछे नारेबाजी करने लगे. ये लोग ‘गोदी मीडिया मुर्दाबाद’ के नारे लगा रहे थे. वहीं, पहलवानों के समर्थन में आए गोपाल तिवारी ने न्यूज़लॉन्ड्री से बात करते हुए कहा, “जब यह बेटियां देश के लिए मेडल लेकर आई थीं तो मोदी जी दौड़ कर आए थे श्रेय लेने के लिए कि देखो हमारे राज में बेटियां मेडल लेकर आई हैं. आज जब ये बेटियां तकलीफ में हैं तो मोदी जी को इनके मन की बात सुनाई नहीं दे रही.”

Even as India is holding a slew of events as the current G-20 president, set to culminate in the Delhi summit in September, the next few weeks will be hectic for the country’s summit diplomacy of a different kind and for a different reason.  These engagements will be observed for agenda-coordination on core interests for the forthcoming summit in Delhi as much they would be watched for how India is navigating its strategically autonomous position on the Ukraine war.  India will be a participant in two different summits hosted by the Asia-Pacific region countries. In the third week of May, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the G-7 summit at Hiroshima in Japan, as India is a non-member invitee to the multilateral meeting of the political heads of the world’s most advanced economies.  This will soon be followed by the Prime Minister’s presence at Sydney, where Australia will host the Quad summit – with India as one of the four members of the strategic security dialogue. अप्रैल महीने की शुरुआत में ब्लिंकिट ने डिलीवरी पार्टनर के पे-आउट स्ट्रक्चर में बदलाव किया. जिसके मुताबिक कंपनी डिलीवरी पार्टनर्स को डिस्टेंस बेस्ट इंसेंटिव के साथ 15 रुपए प्रति डिलीवरी देगी. इसके विरोध में एनसीआर के दिल्ली, फरीदाबाद, नोएडा, गाजियाबाद, ग्रेटर नोएडा और गुरुग्राम में डिलीवरी पार्टनर्स प्रदर्शन कर रहे थे. प्रदर्शनकारी डिलीवरी पार्टनर्स का कहना था कि कंपनी का जो पुराना पे-आउट स्ट्रक्चर था उसके मुताबिक उन्हें 25 रुपए प्रति डिलीवरी के साथ पीक आवर में सात रुपए का इंसेंटिव मिलता था. हालांकि, कंपनी के नए पे-आउट स्ट्रक्चर की वजह से उन्हें अब 15 से 20 रुपए ही मिल पा रहे हैं. मीडिया रिपोर्ट्स के मुताबिक दिल्ली-एनसीआर में करीब 1000 डिलीवरी पार्टनर्स ने ब्लिंकिट को छोड़ उसकी प्रतिद्वंदी कंपनियों जैसे इंस्टामार्ट, जेप्टो, बिग बास्केट में काम करना शुरू कर दिया है. ब्लिंकिट में डिलीवरी पार्टनर के तौर पर काम करने वाले राकेश हमें बताते हैं, “पहले हमें एक दिन में 32 डिलीवरी करने पर 1300-1500 रुपए मिल जाते थे, लेकिन अब 32 डिलीवरी करने पर केवल 700-800 रुपए ही मिल पाते हैं. इसके चलते घर च

Despite a ban on hazardous cleaning without protective gear, contractors from Delhi’s public works department have employed several workers, including many who claimed to be minors, to desilt rainwater drains manually, without any safety equipment. At least across four sites in south Delhi – Adchini, Malviya Nagar, Saket and Ber Sarai – where the desilting work is underway, Newslaundry found labourers descending into drains with a hoe in knee-deep sludge, without any rubber boots, hand gloves or body kit, and mostly clothed in their underwear.  Authorities are carrying out desilting, following an order from the Delhi Lieutenant Governor , with an eye on the G20 meetings in the national capital in September. An event in Bhopal last month which platformed hate speech largely found no mention in the mainstream media, despite the presence of senior BJP leaders from Madhya Pradesh, including a minister. Attended by “nationalist” influencers and focussed on propagating right-wing narratives on the digital space, the ‘Digital Hindu Conclave’, however, wasn’t the first of its kind. Around 15 such events focussed on propagating right-wing narratives have been held across three states – Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh – over the last two-and-a-half years.  Neither an FIR has been filed nor has the police tried to stop such programmes across the country, including the one in Madhya Pradesh. You’d have seen headlines on the recent Bournvita controversy . An Instagram influencer called out Bournvita for passing itself off as a health drink, his post got over 12 million views, and Bournvita’s parent company, Cadbury, sent him a legal notice for trademark infringement and defamation. The influencer took down the video, posted an apology, and Cadbury issued a lofty statement on how it’s a “scientifically designed formula”. Parallely, the central government proposed that social media influencers “disclose” their credentials for offering advice on health and wellness. To me, there’s a wider set of issues at play — which is mainly why I’ve been hesitant to jump into the trending topic swamp and add my half-baked hot take to it. Now that the doom-scrolling public has moved on to its next outrage, I think it’s worth stepping back and thinking about this. There are four things we need to consider. If there had to be an exemplar for heterosexual bias in the language around LGBTQI issues on primetime television, it could be a segment about the Supreme Court hearings on same-sex marriage on Sudhir Chaudhary’s show Black and White on Aaj Tak . With gendered portrayals, fearmongering, amplification of the central government’s arguments, and tom-tomming of religiocultural values, the framing for a heterosexual viewer was clear. The dog whistle seemed to be that same-sex marriage does not bode well for Indian society and a third world country already dealing with problems such as electricity, poverty, hunger and unemployment. But, for starters, Chaudhary seemed to have the fundamentals wrong.  The anchor referred to such marriages as a union of the “same gender” as compared to “opposite gender” in traditional relationships.
