A day after Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy quit as the directors of the board of NDTV promoter RRPRH, noted journalist Ravish Kumar resigned from the channel on Wednesday. The company has “agreed to his request” for the resignation “to be effective immediately”, according to an email sent to the channel’s staff. The Narendra Modi government opened three windows for the sale of electoral bonds in 2018 ostensibly in violation of the Electoral Bond Scheme 2018, suggest documents accessed through the Right to Information Act. The three windows were opened before and after assembly elections in nine states that year. Electoral bonds are a financial instrument used to fund political parties in India. More than Rs 10,000 crore have been funnelled into parties since they were introduced. A document of the Ministry of Finance, accessed by activist Commodore Lokesh Batra, says that the Centre opened windows for the sale of electoral bonds in March, May and November, 2018, in addition to similar windows in April, July and October that year. The Electoral Bond Scheme, notified in January 2018, only allowed the sale of electoral bonds in January, April, July and October months in a non-Lok Sabha election year. In 2017, then Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani declared the state open-defecation free. Two years later, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the same claim about the whole country. However, barely a kilometre away from the BJP office in Junagadh’s Manavadar city, around 200 families are still forced to defecate in the open in Murlinagar Vadivas, Newslaundry has found. These families consist of labourers from the Vadi community, a Scheduled Caste, and mostly rely on odd jobs at the cotton mills nearby for a livelihood. Manavadar is one of Junagadh’s five assembly constituencies and is currently held by BJP MLA and former state minister Jawahar Chavda. He had won the seat as a Congress candidate in 2017 before resigning as the MLA and winning the bypoll on a BJP ticket two years later. नई दिल्ली टेलीविजन लिमिटेड (एनडीटीवी) की प्रमोटर कंपनी आरआरपीआर ने बताया कि उसने अडानी ग्रुप के विश्वप्रधान कमर्शियल प्राइवेट लिमिटेड (वीसीपीएल) को 99.9 प्रतिशत शेयर ट्रांसफर कर दिए हैं. स्टॉक एक्सचेंज में भेजी गई जानकारी के मुताबिक आरआरपीआर ने यह ट्रांसफर सोमवार को किया और इसकी प्रक्रिया पूरे होते ही अडानी समूह को एनडीटीवी में 29.18 प्रतिशत हिस्सेदारी मिल जाएगी. इसके अलावा समूह ने एनडीटीवी में 26 प्रतिशत अतिरिक्त हिस्सेदारी खरीदने के लिए ओपन ऑफर रखा है. इसी साल अगस्त के महीने में, अडानी ग्रुप के स्वामित्व वाले वीसीपीएल ने शेयर ट्रांसफर करने को लेकर एक वांरट जारी किया था. लेकिन सेबी द्वारा राधिका व प्रणय रॉय पर स्टॉक एक्सचेंज गतिविशियों में भाग लेने पर दो साल तक रोक लगी होने के कारण यह शेयर ट्रांसफर नहीं हुए थे. रोक की यह मियाद 26 नवंबर को खत्म हुई और 28 नवंबर को आरआरपीआर ने वीसीपीएल को यह शेयर ट्रांसफर कर दिए. यह ओपन ऑफर 22 नवंबर से जारी होकर 5 दिसंबर तक रहेगा. इस प्रस्ताव में अडानी समूह ने 294 प्रति शेयर की पेशकश की है. बता दें कि 2009 में राधिका और प्रणय रॉय ने आरआरपीआर की ओर

The editors and publishers of five media organisations issued an open letter yesterday urging the US government to end its prosecution of Julian Assange. The letter – signed by the Guardian , New York Times , Le Monde , Der Spiegel and El País – was issued on the 12-year anniversary of “Cablegate”, when Assange’s WikiLeaks released 2,51,000 confidential cables from the US state department. The five media outlets had published these documents and the revelations they contained.  In 2019, the US department of justice indicted Assange on 17 counts of violating the Espionage Act.  As the letter noted, the five signatories had criticised Assange in 2011 for publishing unredacted copies of some cables, and over allegations that he “attempted to aid in computer intrusion of a classified database”. Mallika Sarabhai is an artist, actress, classical dancer and activist from Gujarat. Over a week ago, Prime Minister Narendra Modi exhorted voters in Amreli in Gujarat’s Saurashtra to not “waste” their votes again. “What did they do for you these last five years, tell me? Do you remember even one piece of work they did? Then why are you wasting your votes on them? To strengthen Amreli, I urge you to choose the lotus, the BJP’s election symbol, this time,” he told an election rally on November 20. By “they”, Modi meant the Congress, which won all five of Amreli district’s Assembly seats in 2017. Buoyed by the Patidar agitation for reservation and GST woes, the grand old party snapped up 28 of the 48 seats in Saurashtra. Over the last three years, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has spent a whopping Rs 275 crore to flatten the three landfills in Ghazipur, Bhalswa and Okhla, but their height has remained almost unchanged during this period, according to data provided by several government agencies to the National Green Tribunal. These trash towers have now become sites of a tense political battle between the Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi and the BJP-led civic agencies ahead of the Delhi municipal polls, with both parties accusing each other of mismanagement or lack of funds. However, when the NGT ordered biomining of legacy waste here in 2019, the tribunal had said it was the civic agencies’ primary responsibility to manage waste. In October, a drone survey report – submitted by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee to the NGT – revealed that the height of the Ghazipur landfill was 67 metres at the 200-metre baseline level, a slight increase as compared to 65 metres in 2019. साल 2020 में दिल्ली में हुई हिंसा के अनेकों पीड़ित जान बचाकर भाग गए, जिस वजह से गिने-चुने चश्मदीद गवाह बचे जो आरोपियों की पहचान नहीं कर सके. परिणामस्वरूप पुलिस की जांच कमज़ोर रही क्योंकि कथित रूप से भीड़ को नियंत्रित करने की कोशिश में पुलिस वाले इतने व्यस्त रहे कि वह डायरी में महत्वपूर्ण प्रविष्टियां नहीं कर सके, फलस्वरूप अदालत में आरोपियों का दोष सिद्ध नहीं हो सका. ऐसा कई मामलों में हुआ जिनमें कई आरोपी बरी हो चुके हैं. हिंसा से जुड़े कुल 757 मामलों में से 28 में अब तक आरोपी बरी हो चुके हैं. न्यूज़लॉन्ड्री ने इनमें से 14 का विश्लेषण किया जिनमें 11 लोग बरी हुए थे. नियमों के विरुद्ध इकठ्ठा होने, दंगा, तोड़फोड़ और संपत्ति व वाहनों को आग लगाने से संबंधित यह मामले, 24 से 26 फरवरी, 2020 के बीच गोकलपुरी, ज्योति नगर, वेलकम, भजनपुरा और खजूरी खास पुलिस थानों में थे. अतिरिक्त सत्र न्यायाधीशों पुलस्त्य प्रमाचला, वीरेंद्र भट और अमिताभ रावत की अदालतों में कुल 119 गवाहों से पूछताछ की गई जिनमें से ज्यादातर पुलिस अधिकारी थे. इनमें से कई मामलों में अभियुक्तों की पहचान अचानक की गई, जिससे उन्हें दोषी ठहरा
